Each scale grouping is based on a theme, with each assigned a distinctive colour

Coloured badges on each scale page reflect the theme colours

Scale notes

Notes comprising each scale are listed with their associated accidentals (i.e. the sharps and flats). A mnemonic based on the theme grouping is then created using the initial scale note and the subsequent accidentals.

In this example, A major is in the “People” group, and the notes A, C#, F# and G# have been used to create the mnemonic

A fun and colourful illustration turns the mnemonic into a memorable image

Finger numbering

Right and left hand finger patterns for each scale are displayed, with suggested finger numbering

Circle of Fifths

A Circle of Fifths diagram, colour-coordinated to match the scale pages in the book, is included. The diagram and accompanying text explains, in a straightforward fashion, the relationship between the twelve notes of the chromatic scale, their corresponding key signatures, and their associated major and minor keys.
